Iris studies

These are some studies that I did of a beautiful iris plant this summer. I was trying to work on the form of the leaf and bud and also played around with some detailed studies of the petals.

I wanted to see what I could do with colored pencil as well as some ink.

Really nice work on the leaf especially. REALLY nice. I'm going to have to try this, just doing one leaf from a plant (now if I can just get one out of the garden without my husband suing for divorce :-) ).

Thanks! It's great to try just doing one part of a plant. I sometimes try to do too much at once, and nothing turns out quite like I want. Focusing on one section of a plant (leaf or petal, etc.) can really help.

Lovely study of the iris.

very nice and neat looking Carol, I like that you tried 3 different approaches (mediums) with the same petal on the same drawing. It really makes the differences stand out!
congrats on starting your blog!
